John seems to be an amiable person that I would like to know personally and has been to places where I have dreamed of visiting. Then again with his photos and unique perspective, it feels like I have been there already. His simple style gives you the sense of the big picture and the feeling of having smelled, touched and heard the place: a reverse 'Gestalt' ("the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"). His eye for details (...the parts...) gives you a better sense of the whole. Though whimsically creative, he does not impose his artistry on the scenes he captures but rather carefully passes it on to his audience. "Some photographers take reality...and impose the domination of their own thought and spirit. Others come before reality more tenderly and a photograph to them is an instrument of love and revelation" (Ansel Adams).
