Background:

Most sector specialists are very familiar with the JMP definitions of improved water and sanitation technologies. At times the facilities used by communities fit squarely into the associated JMP categories.

But at country level multiple interpretations may exist of what counts as improved. In recent years such debates have intensified due the sector’s increased appreciation of community-based technology decisions. The consequent variety in technologies can prompt a lot of debate.

And such debates are valuable, particularly at country level. A visual library containing images of the technology under discussion would help to facilitate such discussions.

For that purpose, an online photo catalogue will be made available which country offices can use to store and share local water and sanitation options. The web-based user interface allows for a straightforward categorization and presentation of such technologies.

The photos are simply submitted by email from a computer or smartphone. The photos can be accessed shared and downloaded without login or passwords.
