Hi! My interests in photography are a study in contrasts: the wide expanses of landscape and the sublime of tiny scenes; the inspiration of highly formed architectural detail, and the decay of rusty things. Living in Santa Cruz, California, I frequently find myself inspired by my natural surroundings, and try to share that with my photos. In addition to the inspiration of big landscape I'm also drawn to microscapes, bringing out the beauty in tiny scenes that are only 1-3 inches wide. In this vein, I capture scenes of plants growing in the most improbable of spaces, a testimony to how life manages to thrive and overcomes obstacles. Architectural decoration inspires me, especially intricate sculpture and patterns on building facades. After a photo shoot, I like the sense of discovery from zooming in on high up elements to bring out detail that is inaccessible from ground level. In contrast to the highly organized and designed aspects of building facades, I also like photographing old, rusty objects, finding beauty in the patina of rust and geometricity of old machinery.
