I spent a great deal of my time in my youth travelling around the railway network in the early eighties. Photography wasn't my forte, and hence the quality of my photos wasn't great. I'm glad however I kept most of those I took. I recall having a Kodac instamatic (126?) an Agfa 110, and eventually a Zenith TTL 35mm.
I took up photographing the current railway scene in 2011, so there's a big gap, which I regret now. I used an Olympus SP-810UZ bridge camera to start with, which has its limitations, particularly in poorer light conditions, but I soon moved on to a Nikon DSLR, the D5000.
My current photos try to reflect whats happening out there, whatever the weather. Not one for the purists, but I make no apology for trying out different approaches, angles and ideas. I'd rather publish "warts 'n all" and see peoples reactions, than try to keep to a traditional approach.
Predominently shots are of the rail scene, but the occasional curveball shot is thrown in for good measure. And of course my trusty companion, Toby, features now and again, and has his own set now.
I hope you enjoy looking at my stream, and please feel free to comment at will, criticism too, I won't be offended for justifiable criticism!
My photos are available to anyone for personal download / use, so long as they are not used for publication, for financial gain or otherwise. If however anyone does want to use a shot for publication (unlikely I know!) please don't hesitate to contact me.
I hope you enjoy looking at my photo's, all the early one's are scanned prints - I apologise for the lack of quality!

Testimonials
There are a small number of instinctively good railway photographers on Flickr adding to a stock which will, with the passage of time, be of inestimable value. Jim Knight is one of those; his work interests, inspires and uplifts me.
