Jim Asher is a self taught American expressionist who uses different media to manipulate acrylics and spray paint. Originally from Northampton, Massachusetts, he’s been living in North Hollywood, California for almost 20 years.

Whether he was using affordable materials, like nail polish on paper, or in college majoring in graphic design, James has never stopped creating. There’s always a fresh excitement when he prepares to begin a new piece in his garage studio. He turns on his favorite music and settles into a calm, meditative state until it’s finished.

His paintings have an other worldly feel which he attributes to his emotional response to the world around him and what he envisions it might become. When his wife was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014, much of his spare time was devoted to caring for her. Then, when she was diagnosed again in 2017 and 2019, his heart had new stories to tell. He moved away from dark, harsh edges and embraced more ethereal, light, and airy images.

Today, Jim has a successful career as the general manager of a popular Los Angeles restaurant which has given him the new artistic medium of cooking, as well as, furniture design. His wife is in remission and they cherish every moment they have together.
