The Photographer Shoots Himself by Jibby!

I have a circulatory, digestive and nervous system, with different kinds of organs operating them, all surrounded by blood and meat and fat. My surface is dotted with hair and has various openings from which stuff may enter and exit.

A large sensory unit rests on top of all this, from which I might see, hear, smell and taste the world. I have four appendages which I use to ambulate and manipulate my surroundings. Sometimes they allow me to take mediocre pictures.

I DO NOT COLLECT CONTACTS. I only keep people as contacts who actively comment on my photos. If you comment, I'll reciprocate most of the time, but please don't be insulted if I don't make you a contact. This ain't Facebook, as far as I'm concerned.

Please don't leave big ugly group badges instead of a real comment. I don't want them. I appreciate you looking at my photos, but those big badges are often unsightly. If you don't like the photo enough to actually type something, it can't be that great anyway.

As for photography, I've only been taking photos on a regular basis for five years, but I've been using Photoshop for well over a decade. Since PS2, I believe. I love post-production work because the world never looks to me like it does to my camera. We are partners in the creation of my world. Sometimes it is real, sometimes it is not. I'll always tell you when it's not real, though I may not tell you exactly what I did.

I have to have some secrets. Not many. Just a few.

I'm not a great technician when it comes to actual shooting. I'm one of those photographers who doesn't want something to come "straight out of the camera." So what I lack in camera skill I make up for in post-work. Still, it wouldn't hurt to learn more about the camera.

I need all the help I can get. Not necessarily talking about photography here.

The origin of my Flickr identity can be found here. It was never a name I intended to use here. It just happened.

...Dave never ceases to amaze, mystify and amuse me.. his comments and/or replies to comments never stop from cracking me up..to the point where now, if I see one of his posts, or comments I must place whatever I have in my hands at the moment DOWN, then proceed to read his comments... otherwise it spills all over me … Read more

Dave's work is tireless, and self-less... he puts everything he has into every one of his projects,..and they ALWAYS come out looking magnificent!! I am proud to call him a friend.. just do yourself a BIG favor,..if and when you do view any of the fine works that Dave has created, view it in the LARGE format,..that way you will not miss anything, as his intriguing images are often found to contain little "surprises" within the image... Take care..

Eclectic, dramatic, epic... These are the words that come to mind while viewing Jibby's stream. I very much admire his compositions and perspectives. His b&w photos are always chock-full of rich tones and outstanding contrast. Once in awhile he'll surprise you with color photos that are vivid, bold and beautiful. His architectural shots are very impressive because he tends to breathe life into each and every structure. All of his photos must be viewed large in order to fully appreciate his work, for there is an incredible amount of detail to be found. Also, one might not know just what to expect. I won't elaborate on that one though... you'll have to see for yourself ;)

I'm proud to say I've known Jibby since the dark days of the Depression, when we met in high school as competing newsies. We stood on opposite sides of the street trying to get rich people to buy our newspapers (kids, these were big sheets of "paper" with information on them) and realized if we pooled our resources we could sell more and thus end the worst economic crisis our country has ever faced until last week. Jibby oozes talent like a flying galootma oozes rancid body oils. What sets him apart is that he doesn't do photography just to take pictures and post them; each piece he deigns to reveal is a creative piece that humbles every citizen that peruses his stream. He's the epitome of "quality over quantity". And by being one of his friends I now know that I'm a hell of a guy. Cower, fellow Flickr users, for Jibby's next post will once again humble and amaze you. Lay low, you lazy photographers that take the same flower photo over and over, for Jib is cooking up an image that will burn your eye sockets with sweet pixel goodness. And crawl on your bellies, fans of country music. Just because I don't like country music.
