The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre (JHGC) was founded in 2008 and together with its sister centres in Cape Town (est. 1999) and Durban (est. 2008), form the South African Holocaust and Genocide Foundation.

Operating from a temporary location with only 3 full time staff members, the JHGC has already established itself as a major role player in the educational field — focusing on raising awareness around the evils of racism, and the importance for society to observe human rights and a respect for diversity.

The JHGC is now embarking on an exciting new phase in its development. The City Council of Johannesburg has been instrumental in making available a prime site where the JHGC has begun the construction of a world class centre of learning. It will be situated on Jan Smuts Avenue opposite the Westcliff Hotel.
