TIME FOR ANOTHER OVERHAUL!! I NEED TO ORGANIZE THIS PAGE TO ENCOURAGE ME TO USE IT MORE!
I shoot in the moment. It's rare that I 'create' the shot by doing anything more than observing it.
I like to document the moment, the experience. I find myself the ‘official’ photographer of many road trips, nights out, etc. I photograph these experiences like I tell stories… no detail is too small, no gesture too trivial.
Nature/scenic photography is a passion of mine. And living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth doesn't hurt. Nestled here between the Canadian Rockies and the great, open prairies, there is a wide variety of settings for which I am grateful. Road trips into the mountains provide me with a strange confidence in my work… like I, “little human’, can somehow capture the awe-inspiring magnitude of my surroundings!
When it comes to people... my friends and family tend to be subjects because they don't make me nervous! I also find that knowing my subject helps me to grasp on that ‘something’ that each of us has.
In the past few years I have done a bit more work with people outside my comfort zone. I spent two years shooting a local band, Five Star Affair , at almost every show. This relationship led to my work being featured on their website, in a couple articles and even on their last album.
Last year I showed my very first piece at The Gam in Vancouver and was chosen to participate in This is East Van: A Community Photography Project. This compilation of local photographers will be published into a book.
(Update: I got cut from This Is East Van because they decided to go with a smaller book. But hey... you win some, you lose some.)
More recently I have been doing a lot of exploring, both locally and abroad. Alley walks, bike rides, touring new cities, my own house, and myself... There is a subject everywhere.
