I very often do not mind people having links to my pictures but you must come and ask me first so I know what pictures are going where, especially because quite a chunk of my pictures are legally tied up in several Photography Stock Companies.

I love a good creative flickr group. I am not into groups that insist you comment. I adore creating groups of interest to me and "collecting" beautiful pictures. I often create a group for iconic places that I frequent but do not already have a flickr group (i.e. Sunken Gardens).

I am not exactly sure how this process works? And, fearing the stepping on peoples boundaries I have only written a few Testimonials, but, would LOVE to do more!* Please let me know (flickr-mail me!*) if you want a Testimonial from me, I would be honored to create one for you!* And, anyone, who feels, so, inspired, please, feel free to write one for me, too!* :)

About groups>
I just want to let you know how much I enjoy and appreciate your Awards and your personal invites into many, various, interesting groups. I also want to explain that, at present, I do not join groups that have a lot of specific rules, so, if I do not join a group that you have invited me to, please, understand, this is probably, the reason, why. But, I greatly love and appreciate all the invites, none-the-less!* :)

My ethnicity>
An "American" second generation on my Mother's side but much farther back on my Father's side. My Mother's Father came to America, alone, from Scotland when he was 17. His future wife came to America at 7 from Gibraltar. They both came through Ellis Island in NYC.*
On a roof top in NYC. My Grandpa David is in the middle. Dapper, isn't he!* :)
His family was French, way back, originally.* Grandma was 3/4's Spanish and 1/4 Italian.
On my Dad's side of the family they were British and we suspect Native American via his Father, and, German and Dutch via his Mother.
It seemed important to me, to, express this, in, this wonderful, International, site of ours!*

What I shoot with>
I am so UN-technical that I never thought to put my camera equipment in here! But I enjoy knowing what others are shooting with so here goes!
There are only a few shots in here from the family camera my Father gave to me when I started at Parsons School of Design in 1976, that was a Zeissikon camera.
It felt beautiful. It handled beautiful. That camera finally gave out and was put into permanent retirement.
When I picked Photography back up, in, around, 1998, I had been attracted to Nikon so that was the beginning of my Nikon purchasing. I shot with a manual which I favored, and I had an N65.
I have some of these film shots in here. I had a standard portrait lense. I purchased a non-Nikon wide angle (which I adored*). I had macro tubes. And I bought a Tamron 300 mm lense.
I purchased my first Nikon digital in 2003, my CoolPix 2100. These are my early pictures in here are from this small but very able camera.
Early 2007 I purchased my D70s. Eventual purchases will be a macro and a wide angle lense (love that distortion!*).
In summer 2009 my D70s kept giving me an ERR message, twice to Nikon (all summer!) and they could not fix it so they replaced it with a D80.
I've recently purchased these two refurbished Nikon Lens (I can't afford Nikon new, but I sure love a Nikon lens):
Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Nikkor
AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED
When bits on my Nikon Coolpix 2100 started to break, I first purchased the:
Nikon CoolpixL24,
then looking for a good (but inexpensive) video camera I purchased the:
Nikon Coolpix L820

My story>
I began studying as a young Art Student at Parsons School of Design in NYC at 16. My majors were Drawing, Commercial Art, Illustration, Fashion Illustration and Childrens Books. (No, I could not make up my mind! Ha-ha!) I took my first Photography and Film class here. I developed B&W film and printed pictures. (I miss the smell of the Darkroom!*)
Several years later I went back to Art School to The Fashion Institute of Technology, studying Fashion Design. I took my Design Book of Better Dresses to NY Design Houses. There were few, available jobs, so, I then went out to Los Angeles with the intention of doing Movie Costuming. Not an easy industry to find an opening in!
I moved to Florida where I raised my daughter, near my New York family that had migrated south. Here I painted murals, I have taught many kinds of classes for children, have done every kind of Freelance Photography (well, accept sports!). I have created paintings (canvas, acrylic).
My African series, acrylic.
I have my photographs in two books, and have done some professional Ad work, that, in Agency cooperation, won, Tampa Bay Addy Awards.
While helping my daughter through undergraduate school freelancing became too iffy an income so I let it go. I began to realize I loved not shooting pictures for money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dreams>
I love movies/film and grew up on Golden Hollywood stories, so that's what I love. I love stories. I love pictures. I love good people. I moved to, and lived in L.A. for a little to get into the Movie Industry, but my life took a non-movie direction. So, in the meantime, I plot potential screen or teleplays in my head and enjoy the movies I go see that were blessed enough to get made.*

Quotes from famous Photographers:
"I don't follow any particular rules. I'm sure there are unconscious ones, but any rules I may follow, I'm quite happy to break."
"What determines whether I like a photograph? The indefinable thing... Whether it affects me."
"I don't plan. What I see through the lense dictates."
"A camera helps me to appreciate the details."
"A photograph is a powerful form of communication."
"Mistakes teach me what to try next time."
"Imagination is the force that tells me it is possible."
"Rules are for understanding and breaking."
"Ill break my own rules when I'm angry!"
"What determines whether I like an image? It has to be asthetically pleasing to the eye. Something not straight- it has to be quite dark with a twist."
"My photographs are pure self-indulgence-therapy."
"Mistakes teach me new techniques-they move me forward."
"I couldn't be a commercial photographer-brain surgery is easier."
"My techniques are manipulating film and paper to see how far I can push them, not in a scientific sense- more like vandalism."
"The camera is irrelevent. My techniques, so far, have been entirely experimental in the darkroom and with film. They are derived from abusing the film/paper or process."
"Photography is an absolute passion. I'm quite neurotic without a project."
"I am a total technophobe! I hate technique. My brain cannot absorb it. Take off the lens cap is my rule!"
"Mistakes have taught me resolve."
"My post darkroom technique is to put my prints in a box and have a cup of tea."
"Keep learning, stay motivated, see things never seen and commuincate clearly."
"Every print has a point at which it achieves optimum visual impact."
"The best work I do comes from streams of consciousness and focused concentration."
"A photograph is an encaptured moment in time, never to be repeated."
"Mistakes, especially when taking risks, if we're aware, can teach us to discover our own direction."
"Best judges of photographic work? Non-photographers- they see it for what it is and judge it accordingly!"

Jen is unafraid of bold colour and abstract form. Her pictures escape from the rut of the usual view, the overly glossy, the predictable, the merely 'impressive'.
