I lived in Paleochora, south west Crete, from April 2006 to August 2007. During the summer of 2006 I worked on a sea turtle project based in north west Crete where I lived all summer in a tent on the beach. From October 2006 to July 2007 I carried out an independent survey on the flowers of south west Crete. I organised an exhibition (2007) about the sea turtles of Crete and the results of my survey on the flora of south west Crete. I had a lot of support from the local Mayors' office (Municipality of Pelekanos), school children & their teachers and the local community. The exhibition was an outstanding success. My work on the flora of south west Crete was also exhibited at the Prefecture of Chania show, August 2007, held in Chania, Crete.

I returned to the UK early August 2007 and I have been settling in again to life and work in London. My work on the flowers of Crete continues. I am gradually adding a backlog of Crete flora photographs dating from October 2006 to date on to my flickr site as well as continually updating 'sets' already on the flickr site. I will also add sets of photographs on UK flora and nature.

I graduated from Kingston University in 2004 with a BSc in Natural History and I also have a Certificate in Ecology and Conservation (Birkbeck, UCL). I am a member of several natural history societies in the UK. I also enjoy having a good time too and attend some interesting English traditional festivals which I like to photograph.

I am a passionate gardener - organic and wildlife friendly of course! I enjoy 'trekking' i.e. most notable trip was to southern Chile. I returned to Crete in January 2008 to continue my project on the flora of south west Crete.

UPDATE: August 2008

I returned to the UK mid June 2008 sorting out the house, garden, getting a job and continuing with my Cretan flora project.

UPDATE: August 2009

I returned to Crete from February to early May 2009 and continue to work on the flora of Crete. I have set up a new flickr account specifically on the flora of Crete. www.flickr.com/photos/creteflowers

If you are a flickr account holder search for "creteflowers"

NOTE TO BOTANISTS: I am reviewing all the Crete flora photographs from 2006 to date on this flickr account, checking the naming of the plants and correcting mistakes.
