When I lost my son Steven to suicide I had lots of horrible images in my head that I couldn’t shake off. It was stopping me sleeping, and even if I did sleep I would wake after a nightmare. I was in a deep depression and nothing seemed to help, then I picked up my camera and took a photo… and another… and another. It suddenly came to me that I wasn’t thinking horrible thoughts while I was taking photos I was busy in the moment concentrating on getting the right settings and composition.
Now I know I’m not very good but it's good for my mental health.
I’ve decorated my day bag for my cameras to remind me why I’m doing it but also to be happy; stop & smell the flowers, marvel at how Bumblebees can actually fly, smile when I see a beautiful landscape.
My heart will be forever smashed to pieces and I will always have an aching sadness at losing my child but there IS beauty in the world and I just have to focus on it…. 📷

You say you're not very good at photography but, from what I've seen here, you have a fine sense of the art. Edward Weston once said that "photography is a perfect medium for one whose mind is teeming with ideas, imagery, for a prolific worker who would be slowed down by painting or sculpting, for one who sees quickly and acts decisively, accurately." From what you've shown here, you fit that description perfectly. Good luck.
