Since 2005 I have been escaping New Hampshire winters in the southeast. Initially this was in St. Marys, GA, but for the last two years I have lived permanently in Fernandina Beach. I am a National Park Service volunteer for Cumberland Island and the museum on the mainland. Along with my wife, Rosalind Cowie, I have been involved in various volunteer activities while Roz teaches her primary love, Pilates, on the island.

During my teaching career, I developed a long standing interest in photography in general and microphotography in particular. Student investigations, showed, through photography, the symmetry and richness that is present in macro and micro observations. This might be through comparing velcro loops and hooks to dog’s fur and plant burrs or examining the differences in plant pollen. This has translated into my present interest in the play of light and shadows on feathers and blossoms

I have a photo site at Fine Art America - fineartamerica.com/profiles/james-ekstrom.html
