I am an architectural historian specialising in medieval church chancels. If I have favourited one of your images it is because I have found it especially useful in my wide-ranging research of England's churches.

I found flickr exceedingly useful in my PhD for obtaining images of the majority of the sedilia of England, which have been used to create a database of over 1000 items cataloguing their features. Around 800 of these are "classic" sedilia (demarcated seats between shafts and arches). My thesis was completed in 2015 and is available at www.academia.edu/11697570/Sedilia_in_Medieval_England

In return to the flickr community I aim to upload photos that may be helpful to other church scholars and enthusiasts. My pictures are more architectural rather than aesthetic and tend to follow the description of the church in Pevsner's Buildings of England series. So this is why you might get a rather boring picture of a lone Norman nook-shaft when searching for a pretty picture of a church. Sorry about that. I do however try to take images of all stained glass, following the system found on www.stainedglassrecords.org (and the attributions, although these days I am in the South East of England a lot less).

Please do let me know if you find my pictures useful, I'd love to hear from you.
