An iPhoneographer...
Although I'd dabbled in photography for years, initially with a Pentax MX and latterly with digital compact cameras, it was only when I bought my iPhone 3G in February 2009 that things really got interesting. The early iPhone photo apps were quite simple, none more so than Polarize. I was charmed by the ease of making lo-fi art on the hoof; I found the groups on Flickr and saw what others were doing, and joined in. Encouraged by the supportive and friendly Flickr crowd, and living in photography mode almost 24 hours a day, I learnt fast and discovered that the best photo is when and where you least expect it. I started a 365 project and published a Polarize photo to Flickr every day for a year, and gradually I found my style and discovered a creative guy who had been sleeping for years. My photos started hitting Explore, the daily top 500 photos on Flickr, and they started appearing in exhibitions and competitions. With the advent of the iPhone 4 and it's highly capable camera, I moved up a gear and from that standing start in 2009 I found myself a runner up in the prestigious 2011 IPPA international iPhone photography competition ... and now I've got a small selection of images at Getty Images!
iPhoneography is about spontaneity, being endlessly creative, experimenting, collaborating, finding photographs rather than seeking them, and making art from whatever you found. It's democratic, levelling, time consuming, global, uplifting and pure good fun!
Photos are processed on board using these apps: Iris Photo Suite, Hipstamatic, Polarize, FocalLab, Cropulator, CameraBag, Photogene, ShakeItPhoto, Camera+, Swankolab, Autostitch, Juxtaposer ..... I'm a filter junkie :)
Photos are uploaded using Mobile Fotos or Flickr app on iPhone, or FFXporter plug-in to iPhoto.
Thanks to all my contacts and fellow photographers who have encouraged me with their comments :) and create a great community here!
A selection of my photographs are available for sale as canvas prints on my website at www.east-pole-experience.com
