Light Painting Master and Artist JanLeonardo is the founder of LAPP, Light Art Performance Photography. Light Art Performance Photography differs slightly from standard light painting in that the camera is capturing an artist’s performance. The artist’s light movements are generally choreographed and rehearsed prior to the exposure being taken. JanLeonardo was one half of the light painting duo LAPP-PRO, in early 2011 the group split and JanLeonardo has gone on to create some of the most technically complex and inspiring light art performance pieces around. JanLeonardo’s work with light began in 2005 when he illuminated landscapes using handheld lights. Later he found himself trapped overnight inside an industrial complex. During his overnight stay in the complex he used his camera and LED lights to create his first light painting images. Jan says this of his work “Light is no longer seen as flat lighting, but offers architects, designers and myself as an artist and photographer, to fantasize in spatial vision. Particularly focused, and controlled light provides plenty of scope to work to implement multi-dimensional and fanciful creations.” JanLeonardo is a Brand Ambassador for Led Lenser, Lenovo and Manfrotto, also sponsored by Carl Zeiss and Sony.
