After a long break from SLR photography, I spent several years relearning all the things that I forgot and learning all kinds of new things using a modest DSLR. More recently I have gone mirrorless and I am loving it. At the same time, I have brought my trusty Pentax K1000 out of storage and am shooting a little film again. Photography is one of the few things that I can lose myself in to the point where I am truly “in the moment” and I appreciate it now more than ever. I really enjoy Flickr, especially getting to see, and be inspired by, the work of so many talented people.

I edit my images as little as possible. I like photographing and looking at photos, not sitting in front of my computer editing them. I use Affinity Photo 2 and editing usually consists of cloning out sensor dust and slight tweaks to brightness and contrast, and sometimes shadows. I rarely sharpen images. Commonly, I will try autolevels, and autocontrast, and compare those images to the original and pick the one I like best. I am most happy when I can post the image straight out of camera. I almost never edit a RAW file and I do not feel bad about that. I crop sometimes, but I do feel bad about that. :)

“The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something." - Kurt Vonnegut
