I'm a student at the University of Utah, studying Architecture/Business. I recently returned from an LDS mission in Fukuoka, Japan...so I speak Japanese.
I shoot a Nikon D3100, with a Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, as well as a 50mm f/1.8 lens. No, I'm not made of money. I'd love to upgrade both the body again at some point, but since I'm not a photography major, and simply do it cause I love photography. The D3100 is currently sufficient for my needs, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy something like the D700 if I had the funds...but the that would bring its own set of problems, with lens compatibility and so forth. Ugh.
I also shoot with a Canon IXY Digital 910 IS. I bought this in Japan, and I LOVE it. It takes beautiful pictures. I would never buy a Canon SLR, cause I really prefer Nikon SLRs. However, the Nikon point-and-shoot cameras really can't measure up to the Canons...
So if it comes to a point-and-shoot, then I pick Canon. SLR? Nikon...no regrets.
I recently started my own photography business, but I still rely very much on word-of-mouth. I hope that news of my services will travel quickly, and that I'll pick up more business as the years go by. I've been fairly successful in the last 7 months since I started to take pictures for money.
