FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

(Mostly made up by myself of course, as in any FAQ)

When did you start photography?

Decades ago...

When did you start uploading images to Flickr?

June 19th 2016.

Why didn't you start uploading pictures earlier?

It was only until the introduction into the actual techniques and rules of photography by

Peter le Fevre that I got aware of my need to get feedback on my work.

I now get some feedback, although mostly mathematical, as in numbers of faves or numbers of comments.

When did you start digital photography?

April 26th 2003. Using a Sony TRV33 digital video camera.

Those images where about one Megapixel, to be exact: 1152 x 864 pixels.

I don't think I will ever post any material from that source...

Where do you live?

Wherever I take my pictures, that's my home. Most of my pictures are geo-tagged, so it's up to you...

What are your favorite subjects?

Anything that will sooner or later be demolished, refurbished, restored, cleaned up, rebuilt, burnt down or get a fresh layer of paint.

Also: Herons, kingfishers, storks, cats, dogs, insects and spiders.

And also: Landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, rusty things.

More also: Puffins and/or muffins (whichever taste better).

And not: Chihuahuas and panda bears.

What do you like about doors and windows?

I don't know yet.

I have started following you, why don't you follow me now?

Various reasons may apply:

- You don't have enough photos in your photostream for me to judge whether I should follow you or not.

- I don't like your photos.

- You don't like my photos.

- I thought your pictures were holiday snapshots.

- Your pictures only show cliché travel highlights.

- I wasn't aware that you were following me.

- I have immediately blocked you because you are following me for inappropriate reasons.

- I have immediately blocked you and I have reported you for abuse.

- I am on and off (don't know what that exactly means but it sounds good).

- I don't always have the time to look at your pictures and/or invitations.

- You don't seem to like doors and windows.

- You don't seem to like penguins and muffins.

I have invited you to my group, but you didn't accept my invitation, why?

Again, various reasons may apply:

- Your group is too small.

- Your group is too big.

- Your group has restrictions I cannot cope with.

- Your group forces me to fave, comment or send awards (whatever that means).

- Your group is 18+ only or has content with safety level Restricted or Moderate.

- I don't like the photos in your group.

- I wasn't aware that you have invited me for something.

- I have immediately blocked you, the administrators and the moderators of your group because you are inviting me for inappropriate reasons.

- I have immediately blocked you and your friends and I have reported you for abuse.

- I am following already more than enough groups.

You are following me, but why haven't you faved any of my photos recently?

I cannot look at zillions of photos every day, so I probably didn't see your recent photos.

However, the more (often) you post, the bigger the chance that I actually see them and fave them.

Why don't you comment on my photos?

Faving is one thing, commenting is something else.

I must be in the right mood to comment and I must have the time to comment.

And I try to avoid giving comments that don't add anything.

Why do your pictures hardly ever get Explored?

My watermark is too large, I don't show enough "social" activity on Flickr, my profile picture is not attractive and I don't know the other five reasons.

However, since the end of 2019 things have changed, Explore-wise. Maybe this is related to the fact that I paid Flickr two years of subscription in advance...?

Or maybe not, Explore has changed: less LEGO, less 2nd Life, more high quality pictures.

I hardly ever see people on your pictures. How comes?

Well spotted!

Some of your photos are actually not good at all. Why don't you remove them?

I want to know if you still like them. And I want to see if I make any progress in photography, so I need the old and crappy pictures as a reference.

You sometimes post old pictures. Why?

Whenever I feel like, I post old pictures. I am aware that they may not have my preferred resolution or composition, but I still want to know what you think of them.

You seem to like straight angles and parallel lines, don't you like perspectives?

That is a misinterpretation of my work. The disadvantage of perspectives, especially in architecture, is that unwanted objects tend to pop in, e.g. people, cars, shrubberies, traffic lights, penguins, muffins, chihuahuas...

Do you have any photography Tips and Tricks for me?

Yes I have!

What about the penguins?

What about them?

And....pandas?

I hate them! They are bad. And I see them way to often.

Anything else?

Nope.
