Itala Maria does move your senses often without her awareness. She simply does it. Natural. Playful. I have known her long before she took any serious interest in photography, and I have known about her outstanding artistic talent before digital photography was mainstream. She loves gadgets, and her first serious camera was more toy than tool at first. Admit it, Itala! But, as she is an artist all the way through, she is unable to manage to take bad pictures. Her artistic senses preclude that from happening. So, a great photographer was born and emerged in blinding speed. It is natural to her, because she is a natural. For long it was magic in sculpting, it was magic in painting, it was magic in writing....now I start to believe it is magic in whatever she sets her mind to. As anyone can feel who sees her photography, she gives us the chance to see flashes of her world and how she sees it. Always astonishing. Always surprising. That's Itala, always surprising, in and outside of photography. She is the full blooded artist that any artist could aspires to be. Few get there. Almost none actually do so with her modesty. I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Itala in flickr not long ago, but since I saw her first photo I was in love with her style. She has a high sensibility and feeling that come across her creations. And she is what we call " uma caixinha de supresas"( a surprise box). When you look at one of her photos you feel immediately touched and the words come to your mind "that's perfect, a most sweet and poetic creation, that's excellency ". One can't help but feel moved and thrilled by her work . And then, some time later, she posts another image and the same words come to our mind, but surprise, the image is in another style, another thema, completely different subject. It really proves that all her creations come from within her soul, a beautiful and kind soul, so no matter which subject or style, beauty is always shining there. If my words are not clear, please take a look at her photostream and you will see. This same inside beauty is behind her actions and relationships in flickr. Without even telling you anything she does things for you, like inviting her friends to be your friends ( and her friends are marvellous people) , not expecting anything in return, just an action of her king and gentle heart.

I am lucky that itala2007 became for me Itala from Rio de Janeiro. The photographer became a contact. The contact became a Flickr friend. The Flickr friend became a friend. Itala is the first person among my Flickr contacts whom I was lucky to meet in person, during her family visit to Paris. Since long, I admired her pictures, colorful and strongly composed, of flowers, of tropical beaches, of the forests, of her dogs big or baby. I wondered how she did these incredible macro shots. Now I know a few of her secrets: - an Olympus bridge camera that has a wonderful lens with great zooming power and macro capabilities - the will to carry it around, always ready, with the antennas deployed, searching for beauty and the instant to capture - her level of expectation, always very high! Itala questions her technique, wants to learn (but does not like to read manuals). She attends photo courses to get even better - she is a globe trotter and you will find in her stream photos from Brazil of course, but also Canada, France, etc... But beyond the beautiful pictures I have been lucky to be able to discover the person: lively, intelligent, active like a business woman, creative like the artist she is. Her friendship is precious to me. My wife Eriko was also charmed. And Itala knows how to charm you in Portuguese, in English, in French... And we fall under her charm!
