I was lucky enough to come across Iskald's site quite a while ago now and have been a fan of her work ever since. I was particularly struck not only by her industrial landscapes of old deserted factories and de-commissioned military installations, but also by her ability to capture that eerie sense of abandonment, decay and human absence. Her work is a constant source of inspiration to me, be it buildings, landscapes or even plant life, her images have that marvelous alchemical ability to transform the apparently everyday, into the miraculous. Iskald is a true photographic artist, and as with the work of all great artists, you come away from her work not only with the sense of having seen some excellently executed photographs, but also of having experienced a mind and a unique vision. I continue to be amazed.

She has good tunnel vision. Not in the usual sense of only seeing what is right in front of her. On the contrary, she sees objects that merely block the view for the rest of us. One year or another she must find a subject that calls for low contrast? I promise I'll tag that with "low contrast" when it happens.

- Udii poi una gran voce dal tempio che diceva ai sette angeli "Andate e versate sulla terra le sette coppe dell'ira di Dio"....di grande impatto ed evocativa, davvero una gran foto! - Questo è stato il primo commento che ho scritto su una foto di Iskald. Del resto è stata una cosa istintiva scriverlo perchè la sua foto lo imponeva. Pian piano ho cominciato a scoprire le foto di questa ragazza e ad apprezzarne i tagli con cui eseguiva ogni singolo scatto e i colori. Ho sempre concepito l'abbandono in bianco e nero, magari esageratamente contrastato per dare quell'aria del tempo che fu. Ma se hai la mano giusta puoi dare le stesse impressioni anche con il colore. Perchè anche nell'abbandono il colore trasmette quegli echi di un passato imprigionato nella memoria del posto. Abbandoni quindi?Non soltanto, ci sono paesaggi e giochi di luce, cieli infuocati e viaggi da apprezzare. Non soffermatevi solo sulle prime pagine ma andate anche oltre e non ne rimarrete delusi....

Non so nulla di Iskald. So solo che una sera mi sono ritrovato nella jungla delle sue visioni e ne sono rimasto totalmente colpito e rapito. Ho trovato una profonda ricerca. Un gusto terrificante per tutto ciò che è post... industriale, nucleare, atomico e via dicendo... l'amore per ciò che è abbandonato. Soggetti immobili ma urlanti e vitali. Colori densi e bollenti, tagli urticanti. Superfici che viene da toccarle. Il reale allo stato di iper. Gioielli metallici e decadenti. Poesia di sogni fradici. Mi fermo qui, consigliando 5 album da ascoltare mentre si guardano una dopo l'altra le incredibili fotografie di Iskald. Nine Inch Nails "The Downward Spiral ". Queens Of The Stone Age "Era Vulgaris". Tool "Lateralus". Alice In Chains "Dirt". Six Minute War Madness "Full Fathom Six". E buon viaggio...
