I’ll just say it. We met online. And as unromantic as that sounds, it was a more intense courtship than any “normal” relationship could muster. When we “met,” Navdeep was living in California, immersed in a creative writing MFA program, while Sona was working as an entertainment writer in New York.

We are very different travelers. Sona doesn’t mind roughing it here and there, but is generally used to traveling comfortably (and plenty of shopping). Navdeep has no problem roughing it and has backpacked through China, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam, and India. He can brush a cockroach off his plate and continue eating. Sona flies into hysterics at the very idea of a cockroach (or any other creepy-crawly thing) within a ten-mile radius.

When we first started this site, it was a way to document our first big adventure together: a six month honeymoon through India. Instead of it being the end-all of all fun trips, it became the beginning. Despite spending every waking hour together, we miraculously didn’t kill each other. We were impressed with ourselves too. And then we thought, “we want to go on more honeymoons.” Sure enough, there’s no rule that says you can only have one. In the midst of planning a highly impractical trip through Greece, Sona found out she was pregnant. We recently bought a house so now have mortgage payments to make, and spend a huge amount of money on medical insurance – neither of us have full-time jobs. Instead of a backpacking trip, we went to a very relaxing, but completely anti-independent travel holiday: an all inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic, in what we found out later is called a Babymoon.

Just because we have a beautiful daughter, we have no intention to stop honeymooning. Instead, we’re going to take her with us. Adaptation is the cardinal rule for a backpacker. And we are still the backpacking couple. We’re still planning to take Big Honeymoons, Little Honeymoons, and plenty of Weekend Honeymoons! Join us as we achieve our goal of conquering the world one honeymoon at a time and blog all about it! Oh, and Navdeep kills a few creepy, crawly things, at Sona’s, uh, request (we’ll blog about that too).
