Not only does Ed do everything - portraits, products, landscapes, strobism - he does each thing like it's the only thing he's done for decades, all with a personal stamp that is unmistakable. His technical prowess, eye for detail, sense of color, and knack for capturing people, places, and things at their best are astonishing... and not a little enviable. And the fact that he's only been doing this for a few years? Icing on the cupcake (or salt in the wound, depending on your disposition). It's crazy how one can master one's craft in such a relatively short period of time. When I met Ed, I was half-expecting a shiny robe and pointy hat with stars and moons all over them. Maybe he's just one of those plain-clothes magicians, those ninja necromancers. That'd be cooler, anyway.

I find it hard to describe a person you have so much respect for, and that is just exactly what Ed is in my book ☺ If you examine his style of photography, you are like reviewing a manual which might as well be entitled “How to do things perfectly”. He is one of the few photographers I know who truly uses the foundations and rules of our craft with strict measures – composition, light and an endless eye for beauty – and almost always end up with a photograph to be admired. I've been on Flickr for a couple of years now. In that time, I have seen some amazing and inspirational work from many talented professional and amateur photographers alike. However, Ed McGowan is something more. Each day, Ed redefines what it is to be a photographer and an artist and how simple everyday objects, situations or even moods can be portrayed with passion, flair, creativity, humor and a technical skill far advanced than that of many full time industry professionals. Ed was the first photographer I found on Flickr who consistently produces such varied images of this high a quality. I really want to emphasize the word "consistently". That's what I find so amazing about his photostream and why I look forward each day to something new and totally different. He also has very good taste in cars.
