Photography began as a hobby for me and not much more. About eight years ago, my parents bought me a simple point and shoot and I began to develop a love for photography. I have since upgraded cameras several times and I now shoot with a Canon EOS 5Ds and a couple of Sigma lenses. I have had the opportunity to travel to several different countries and all across the United States. The reason I fell in love with photography is because I wanted to capture and share the beauty that I get to see. God has created beautiful mountain ranges, oceans, beachfronts, forests, waterfalls, and the list goes on and on. I put my heart into every photo I take and my goal is ultimately to glorify the One who made all of it!
Growing up in rural Minnesota surrounded by cornfields, I had to travel a lot to be able to capture many of the photos that I do. Often times I leave several hours before the sun comes up and I will drive up to 8-12 hours in one day just for a sunrise or a waterfall. Many people have thought I was crazy, and if I am honest I probably would agree with them! I have put thousands of miles on our cars just in the past couple of years and to me it is all worth it. I have been given a gift to display the beauty of what the Lord has made and it is my desire to use this gift to advance His Kingdom in all of the earth. In every photo I try to find a way to encourage someone, challenge our culture's way of thinking, relate with people, and comfort the brokenhearted with the beautiful truths of the Scriptures.
For me, the gift of photography is not just a gift that I get to bless others with, but it is also a gift I too am blessed by. In 2010 I was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy and since, several other health problems have emerged. I have since partially lost my ability to walk, mostly lost my ability to run, and many every day tasks have become very difficult. The ability to still take pictures is truly a blessing from God! To me, photography has been a place of refuge away from my disease, even though my pain may be present, the ability to sit and take in the beauty around me allows me to rest. As I go on long drives and shorter hikes than what I used to do, I take advantage of every moment and I thank God for the ability to enjoy everything that He has made! I recognize that even in the midst of my suffering that I still have EVERYTHING, that is, CHRIST! He is the reason that I even have breath in my lungs, He is the reason I have joy, He is the reason that I can press forward, He is my everlasting hope!
To the Lord of all of Heaven and Earth be all praise, blessing, and honor forever and ever AMEN!
May the Lord Bless You!
