Activities include railfan, model railroader, and grandpa day care. Starting taking railfan photos in 1972, and been fortunate to travel to many interesting locations. Generally, my 20th century pictures are from scanned slides, and 21st century are from digital cameras. I have about 13,000 slides with about 40% scanned. I am generally posting pictures on Flickr from oldest to newest.

Started out with a Konica Auto S-2 (loved that camera!) but have used Pentax cameras almost all my life. Difficulty focusing in my old age led to a brief romance with a Canon EOS Elan in the late 1990's, my last film camera. Currently using a Pentax KX. My photo software is Adobe Lightroom, which for me is well suited for both digital and scanned slides and eases my process for getting pictures out to Flickr.

Each year from 1973 thru 1999, I took an annual "train trip" with my friend Mike Barton. These started as Midwestern treks, and led us to Canada, Wyoming and Colorado. In the 1990's we got out to Utah, California and the Pacific Northwest. Great locations in my photos are credited to Mike's research. Mediocre photography is all my doing.

Mike and I had attended the 1985 NMRA Convention in Milwaukee and were impressed by the slide shows presented by some of the older members that went back to the 1940's and 1950's. I admired their willingness to share the images and the knowledge that they had. As I've become one of those "older" folks, Flickr has provided the means for me to share some of my images that now date back many years. My photos are more interesting for their age than the quality of the photography.

I don't follow too many folks, because I do look at every photo that's posted by the people I do follow. I often "favorite" a photo and then use that as a bookmark to periodically go back and look at photos from that person. I strongly feel that if you follow someone on Flickr then you should make your photos available to be viewed. I think that's in keeping with the spirit of Flickr.
