“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”

So said Elliott Erwitt. I agree with him.

I have been taking photographs since the 1950s when I was a small child and too young to remember. I enjoyed the magic of my mother's waist-held 'box' Brownie and it soon became mine. Similarly, my late wife and I gave our own two children a Kodak Instamatic as soon as they could walk.

Several film cameras followed the Brownie over the years and when younger I did all my own film and print processing. At that time I was taught the art, and influenced, by a neighbour whose vast negative and print collection I have recently been given. I am in the process of scanning the negs. and an ongoing project is to post some online:

I still have several film cameras, one dating back to the early 1920s, but I went digital in 2008. I love the present technology whilst still appreciating that which went before. Almost all my gear is now Canon and my principal camera body is presently a 40D. An upgrade is beckoning and intended later in the year. Additionally, I am increasingly impressed with the camera on my phone, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It lacks lens quality, of course, and manual control is very limited, but it has some fun features and is great in low light social situations.

Most of the earlier photos posted here have an 'Attribution, Noncommercial, No Derivative' creative commons licence whereas most of the later images are © and all rights are reserved. Most recently I have resorted to watermarking and posting smaller sized images on Flickr. I am prepared to supply and license larger non-signed versions, however. Alternatively many are available in printed form, as cards and

framed or mounted, here.
