I am a Cuban born visual artist currently living in Miami. My works range from colored pencil drawings, ink and oil pastels on paper and oil on canvas, to videos, art animation, photography, sculpture, and mutimedia public installations. I use a figurative graphic language to express diverse stories that create, in the viewer, a finding of the lesson of a story.
For more than 30 years, my work has been exhibited in different art galleries, international art fairs, and art museums. They have taken place in many cities throughout the U.S. and abroad such as in Japan, China, Korea, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. My work is included in the collections of various art museums, among them are the MOCA-Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami, The Lowe Art Museum in Coral Gables, The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, The Young at Art Museum of Broward in Davie, Florida, The Georgia Museum of Art at University of Georgia in Athens, The Mobile Museum of Art in Alabama, The University Art Museum in Radford University, Virginia.
My public artwork such as “The Canopy Crown” is located at Zoo Miami , “Vitality” at The Jackson South Community Hospital (Interior/ Way-finding System: flooring, murals, silkscreen artwork, signage, lamps) both were commissioned and are part of the Miami-Dade Art in Public Places collection. Also, my marble sculpture “Vessel” can be found at Coco-plum Circle in Coral Gables, Florida; and at the City of Hialeah. In 2014 I had a retrospective major survey exhibition titled “Crossroads of the Dystopia” at The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum in FIU.
On several occasions, I have received national and international awards in recognition of my professional artistic career such as the Seetal in Switzerland, Medal of Culture in Rotterdam, Florida Individual Artist Fellowship Honorable Mention, Chivas Regal Order of Distinction, among others.
