A truly unique conservation experience.

The conservation of wildlife at Imire began decades ago in the early 1970s, when conservationists Gill and Norman Travers saw the need to re-introduce game back into the area around Imire. During the 1980s, a decade which saw some of the worst rhino poaching in Zimbabwe's history, Norman was awarded custodianship of seven orphaned baby Black Rhino. Thus began Imire's Black Rhino breeding programme.

To be a privileged part of Imire's Rhino and Wildlife Conservation programmes, even for a few days, is to share in something unique. Whether you’re volunteering, doing a research project, staying at Sable Lodge, working with Numwa School, sponsoring an animal or enjoying a day trip, the unique magic of Imire cannot help but soak into your bones.

Norman and Gilly's incredible story continues today with Gill and Norman’s son, John and his wife Judy at the helm, plus a great supportive team, all tireless participants in a never-ending adventure of love, community, education and fun.
