I grew up in hot, dry ranch country and now live on the coast. That explains my e-mail address and Flickr name. (July weather at the ranch here is 57 degrees and foggy, with the kind of swirly wind that will put most of a horse's meal down your shirt before you can blink. I have learned NEVER to chew gum and feed or brush a horse at the same time!) I share this weather with two cats and two horses and the most patient husband in the whole world!
I don't complain too much, though, because we have WAY fewer flies than we had where I grew up, and spring and fall are always gorgeous, and the critters and flowers are divine.
2022 update: We now have one kitten named Izzie ( born Dec 6, 2021) , a street cat named Mama Kitty (sometimes called Moose) who has moved in to help us raise Izzie, and two horses, Mac and Magic, are still in the same house and have the new horses at the same ranch that we kept Rusty and Smokey at. Life is still good, we are just slower.

I came across ihatefog's pictures a few months ago and was instantly hooked. Her photos of horses, in particular... wow, there is so much heart in them. She knows these animals inside out, and manages to capture their very essence, whether she is zooming in on a detail -- the mane, the eyes, the glistening haunches -- or documenting joyous occasions such as the making of sunny dust. Her images take me into a world that I am not very familiar with, and I have to tell you... I like it there! So, ihatefog, thank you for the beauty you share with us. I always look forward to your piccies popping up on my feed!
