I take most of my photos with a Nikon D80 these days. I get very excited about photos of very small things. A few months ago, after being sad that my DSLR didn't do much for macros I went and bought Nikon's 105mm "micro" lense and i love it. Incidentally, I use it for probably half of my not-macro shots as well. It takes great portraits and is the closest thing I have to a fixie telephoto right now.
Sadly, a D80 with a 105mm lense on the front of it and maybe a couple of small flash heads snapped onto a ring light does not make for super portable gear and Some Shots really can't be planned for.
So I try not to leave the house without my Canon SD800.
I'm also not shy about using Photoshop. I don't have the skills to do anything that I'd really call cheating (sticking subjects in places that they weren't, etc) but I'll happily tweak the levels, add lens blur, and sharpen things if that makes a picture prettier. I organize all my photos with Adobe Lightroom
Oh and I don't never ever miss shooting film.
While I do love photography, I don't tie much of my self worth to my ability to take a great picture (thank gods!) so don't be shy about offering suggestions (or heck, insults) if it takes your fancy.
