My name is Ignacio Alvarez and I am a professional photographer and a photography instructor at Truman College in Chicago, Illinois.

I have been in love with photography for over twenty five years. My life as a photographer started when I purchased my first 35mm camera - a magnificent Minolta X700. After several years of shooting pictures at various sporting events in the Chicago parks (and selling the pictures) I decided to learn to develop my own photos. For that, I chose Truman College. My instructor was Carol Harmel, a great photographer in her own right. I learned so much from her and from Jan Wessels, who is in charge of the darkroom classes. After a couple of years of instruction and practice, lots of practice, I decided to open my own photography studio. In fact Jan Wessels helped me design the logo for my business, Custom Images Photography.

After many years of photographing for corporations and a few magazines, I was asked to teach photography at Truman College for one year, replacing a teacher who was taking a sabbatical. When the instructor returned, she opted not to continue to teach these classes so I was asked to stay permanently. I believe this is now my fifteenth year at Truman. And after all these years, I still love teaching this profession to students with the hopes of inspiring others.
