Ian Dyson is a gentleman who first made contact with me when he commented on my shot “Gathering Storm”, which I had named after the memoirs of one of Ian’s countrymen, a certain Mr W. Churchill (who the US Flickrites will also undoubtedly attempt to lay superior claim to). Ian's shots manifest his love of life. We are able to enjoy, through his photos, his view of his family, his heritage, and his life. In Australia we use the term “dinkum” to describe people who remain in reality when the rest of us are off on ego trips. His unbridled enthusiasm is seen in sending an email to others suggesting a 4am shoot on a subject undetermined and for no apparent benefit to anyone - Ian's “big idea” clearly in a class of its own, “What am I doing at 4am next Sunday - You thought I should do what????” As Ian says, it’s “all or nothing” with him. Despite having never made it to Birmingham or meeting Ian “in the flesh”, we already know each other and we’ve got candidate pubs identified next time I manage to survive Heathrow 4. Like minds attract. I suspect he might also be an expert on Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling. Bruce Kerridge Sydney, Australia
