“Let your life be a counter friction to stop the machine. What I have to do is to see, at any rate, that I do not lend myself to the wrong which I condemn.”
-Henry David Thoreau
1995, the year the internet was commercialized, since then our world has changed. We have been brought closer together in international terms and our daily tasks have become more expedient than ever before. We have all of the world’s knowledge at our fingertips. Nonetheless, our global society online is not without its flaws.
As a person who is extremely captivated by history I find that my work is extremely dependent on that history. Using tape, paint, and other miscellaneous materials I want to show people that there is something more than today. We each are dependent on thousands of other people that have already created works of art and philosophies.
I strive to make a world that is bordering the superficial and the sentimental to extenuate the times that we live in. The speed at which we are moving depends on that which we create to make our daily tasks easier. It is easy to be drawn in by excessive simplicity, though it eventually wears on the design of our body and individual human spirit.
I believe in a time and people who lived before documented history, I often wonder what lessons these people (whether they existed or not) could lend our current and future generations about the misuse of technology.
