In 26 years, I've lived in nearly 20 homes. I guess you can say wanderlust runs in the family. These past couple of years, I have been consumed with traveling--planning, saving, going. By the time I was 21, I had never left my home continent. I got this idea that I should visit all of the religious capitals of the old world. Egypt, Israel, Greece, Peru, etc. etc. etc. I have strayed a little bit from that plan, but I'm getting there slowly. My New Year's Resolution in 2002 was to visit a new American state and a new foreign country every year. So far, I've kept the pace, and even sometimes exceeded it. On account of my terrible memory, a camera has become my most useful traveling companion--pictures remember everything I don't. I'm still working on a list of places I want to see in the next handful of years. A couple of my major longings are:
North America and South America: the Grand Canyon, the Rockies (done), a live volcano in Hawaii, Northern Lights, real live bayou country (done), Macchu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer, Mosquito Bay (done)
Europe: The Angel of the North, Sagrada Familia (done), Stonehenge (done), the Alps, Blue Lagoon, the Acropolis, the Coliseum (done), Church on Spilled Blood, Versailles, St. Vitus Cathedral, the running of the bulls, Christiania
Africa and the Middle East: the Sphinx, Mount Kilimanjaro, Fes, the Dead Sea (done), Victoria Falls, Old Jerusalem (done), the pyramids at Giza, Petra, Sultan Qaboos mosque
Asia and Australia: Taj Mahal, the floating markets in Bangkok, Ayers Rock, The Great Wall, the Terra Cotta Warriors, Angkor Wat, the Forbidden City, the elephant roundup in Surin
But these are the only places I've been so far:
