Our Mission

Working with our compassionate community, we will end pet homelessness and animal suffering.

Our Community Commitment

Compassion for all animals who come through our doors—whether they are lost, relinquished, or suffering, we will give them the treatment and care they need.

Compassion for every person who seeks our services—whether to adopt, heal and safeguard their pets, or because they are unable to care for their animals and trust us to treat them with love and kindness.

Compassion for people and animals in our shared communities—we provide accessible services, advocate for stronger animal welfare laws, protect animals from harm, offer behavior support to pet owners, and deliver humane education to instill respect for all.

About Us

Humane Colorado is a national leader in animal welfare, bringing over a century of experience in advocating for animals and the people who care for them through compassionate support services. Founded in 1910 as the Denver Dumb Friends League, we provide care and refuge for more than 47,000 pets and horses every year across Colorado. Our commitment extends beyond essential sheltering—we nurture the human-animal bond by connecting caring people with homeless animals; address contemporary animal welfare challenges and barriers to pet ownership; educate and inspire future animal advocates; and offer critical, life-saving veterinary services to our community.
