Choreographer and Associate Professor at the Taipei National University Of The Arts.

 

Hugo Fanari was born in Brussels 1971.

 

He studied dance in the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, the ballet school of Carmen Roche and Luis Fuentes and graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Dance in Madrid.

 

He worked as a principal and soloist dancer in several dance companies in Europe; Ballet Classico de Madrid, Luzern Ballet, Hannover Ballet, Zurich Ballet, Bonn Ballet, Finnish National Ballet among others.

 

In his career as a dancer he has danced most of the classical repertoire, RUDOLF NUREYEV (The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker), PATRICE BART (Don Quixote), JOHN CRANKO (Romeo and Juliet), BOURMEISTER (Swan Lake), PIERRE LACOTTE (La Sylphide), LANDER (Etude), AUGUST BOURNONVILLE (Napoli, Le Conservatoire, Flower Festival in Genzano), NATALIA MAKAROVA (La Bayadère), YURI VAMOS (A Midsummer Night's Dream), TOM SHILLING (Romeo and Juliet), MIKHAIL FOKINE (Les Sylphides), BALANCHINE (Divertimento No. 15, Concerto Barocco) MARIUS PETIPA (Giselle, Harlequinade, Paquita, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Le Corsaire, Coppélia, The Grand Pas classique), MASSINE / LEON (The Three-Cornered Hat) JORGE GARCIA (Majissimo) among others.

 

But as well many contemporary works by OHAD NAHARI, JORMA UOTINEN, NACHO DUATO, WILLIAM FORSYTHE, JIRI KYLIAN among others.

 

As a choreographer, beside his work with dancers, he has staged opera singers, actors and musicians.

He has successfully created over 20 dance works for different festivals, ballet companies and choreography competitions.

 

Hugo Fanari is often asked to give classical training for dance companies and contemporary workshops.

Several modern solos and duets have been specially created for international dance competitions.

 

Year 2000 his ballet No man's land won in Hannover International Choreographer Competition the first prize, Pierre Wyss-prize and the public's choice award.

 

Prix Dom Pérignon of Choreography winning Nachwuchpreis with his ballet E pur sì muove at the Hamburg State Opera in July 2003.
