I have admired the work of Michel Geurin since I first found it here on flickr. He has a talent for connecting to the human condition. Before man could speak, art was the only means of communication. Throughout history, artists have been the visual storytellers who gave us a visual understanding of this human condition. Michel is a modern-day visual historian and storyteller. Through the expert use of colour and texture, his portraits give us a visceral connection to the subject. There is a fragile sense of balance in all the work. He adds a touch of menace to a simple still life. This is what makes the paintings more than just a translation of what one sees. If one examines closely, the paintings stimulate our imagination. Michel has built a bridge between the traditional esoteric expressions of long ago artists and this culture, and he invites the viewer to step in and pass through from one world to another.
