Debby Powell is a photographer based in beautiful Denver, Colorado, USA. Debby has traveled throughout Colorado and the western US, including the Hawaiian Islands and Alaska, western Canada and Mexico’s Baja California in search of stunning portraits of Mother Earth.

Debby is a photographic artist - using her camera to move from time to timelessness. Debby is a licensed spiritual practitioner through the Centers for Spiritual Living and considers her photography to be a spiritual practice as much as an art form. Debby sees photography as a way to practice mindfulness and contemplation in our complex world today. A graduate of Regis University, a Catholic and Jesuit institution, she believes, as The Jesuits teach, that God is present in all things and in all people. The photographic goal then, is to reveal the holiness in all photographic subjects.

Debby’s photos have been published in Cowboys & Indians magazine, Science of Mind magazine, and other publications and her work has been displayed at various art shows and galleries including the annual Environmental Film Festival photography show in Golden, Colorado.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Photography is my key to the secret garden of life, my trip down the rabbit hole, a true magical looking glass with which I perceive the world.

I have been interested in photography since I was a child, when my parents first gave me their old Kodak Brownie camera. Capturing each moment of life through the camera lens has always struck me as magical and as a way to truly live in the moment. From snapshots and portraits, to fine art landscape photography, this magical process has had its way with me over the years leading me ever deeper into unity with the divine light found in nature. Photography fills me with a sense of wonder and joy that can best be compared to the sense of unity one experiences only in prayer and meditation. Through the practice of photography, I am able translate my inner vision to the external world.

I shoot from the inside out, following my inner consciousness as it guides me to reveal the energy of the light around me and my photographic subjects. At the same time, I work deliberately, employing my learned skills and modern technology to create the final image.

I continue to be awed by the magnificence of creation.
