The Hinchinbrook Shire is situated in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

Travel 110kms north of Townsville and enjoy the green vibrancy of the Hinchinbrook Shire. The township of Ingham, the main town in the shire, is surrounded by beaches, wilderness and rural areas.

The Shire has a population of approximately 12,200 residents of whom 60+% are enrolled as Library Borrowers.

Library services are provided to the Shire through libraries at both Ingham (the central library) and Halifax.

Many people travel north to spend their winters in the Hinchinbrook Shire. The Library welcomes these part-time residents as well. Many enjoy nothing better than a warm winter and a good book - plus a little fishing when the book is finished.
