Heartside Gallery and Studio is a program of Heartside Ministry, situated in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Started in 1993, the Gallery and Studio offers a sacred space for Heartside neighbors to creatively express themselves in a supportive environment. Most of our artists have had no formal art training, and have experienced homelessness and/or have mental health issues. The work in our studio often falls under the wonderful categories of 'self-taught', 'outsider' 'folk', or 'intuitive' art. Come have a look!

Art Experiences at Heartside include (all programs are drop-in, at no cost):

Daily: drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry-making, sewing, knitting and crocheting, wood-burning and carving and collage.

Weaving Program, Wednesdays 1:30-3:30pm, complete with 2 large looms and 2 lap-looms

Woodshop Wednesdays: 10am-2pm woodworking with Big Mike, our Artist in Residence. Start with small wood-carvings, then work your way up to small sculptures!

Pottery Program: Mon-Fri 1-3:30pm, with 2 electric wheels, molds, pug, slab rollers, hand-building areas, and a full-size kiln.

Fabric Arts: Mondays and Thursdays 11-3. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, etc. under the guidance of experienced volunteers.

The Gallery and Studio are open Mon-Fri 9am-3:30pm. Art shows and exhibits are offered regularly, and will be posted here and on our website.

Artists receive 90% of the profits from sales through the Gallery, giving 10% back to the studio to help defray costs of art supplies.
