Hello fellow flickrites, way over 21 my photos depict the tip of the iceberg of my life. It's not the most exciting life on this earth, but certainly rewarding for me. I've met lots of interesting people, have had my ups and downs with lovers, but such is life, and here are my photos. Feel free to fav and/or comment, I really don't get why so many people object to their photos being faved, what's up with that?

I hate to have to put this at the front of my profile, but I just despise having to block dudes. Read up gay flickrites, I'm not homophobe, but neither do I like to gander at your gear. If you are of that persuasion, and you add me as a 'friend' for the purpose of sharing your private bits with me, you'll get the big B!

And another thing that bothers me a lot, if you're a guy and you fav several of my photos, and when I look at your profile I see nothing but dick?! You're gonna get blocked! All of my posts are for enjoying, and if you pick my pecker as your fave, I won't hesitate to block you!

(updated 13 December 2008)

Pay attention to the details before fav'ing my photos and adding me as a contact! Got a blockhead? Getting blocked!

Way behind on touching my friends (I'm very sorry!), busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest. Since January 2008 I've only been 'home' an aggregate of two months! I'm now buying a new home, which will give me an opportunity to spread my wings and be more organized, hovel living has its place, but no more for me!

Be excellent in whatever you put your hands to ...

Divorced and straight guy! Way over 18 too!

Although nothing seems to change much (the routine of daily life that is: get up, shower, shave, brush teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, go to work, etc.) life is as busy as ever. I'm over the temporary job (irrigation system installation and maintenance), which both of my sons are still engaged in. I learned new useful things about irrigation plumbing, wells, etc. that I have already put to good use for some friends. I have no regrets about this job, being offered new photo ops virtually every day.

I now have a job which suits my experience and talents a bit more, teaching, building, and training people how to use a maintenance management program developed for aviation. It's challenging, but not as physically demanding (hence my expanding girth which I must do something about). Once again I'll be travelling to exotic places, meeting new people (and old acquaintences), and living in temporary facilities.

Although I'm making much better money, the down side to having a real job is that my spare time is more limited than I would like, but there are bills to pay, and a future to look forward to - moving up from hovel-living to a decent place I can call home, for the long haul. A new vehicle would be nice, maybe in a couple of months. I've been looking at the hybrids or something like that, BMW now has a snazzy-looking hydrogen model, mmm. I would be happy with a cabin in the woods and a horse to ride, away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, but that may have to wait a bit ...

(I'm straight, and definitely 18+ years of age! And if you happen to be conscientious enough to read through my profile before adding me as a contact, then understand this: I am not a homophobe, but I do have standards, and if you are gay and add me as a contact rest assured I will check you out. And if I find that your contacts are filled with nobody else but other gay men and your photos show primarily nude guys having sex with each other, and your list of groups consist of primarily gay interests, I will block you!)

Explored a bit: Explored Set

Old school photographer (amateur nonetheless), prefer to use available environment to shoot photos (ambient light, artificial light, objects, angles, built-in camera effects, etc.) than to depend on treatments after-the-fact. Will use a program to slightly modify my photos when desperate (like when it takes forever to capture in digital what I see in my mind's eye).

Old as dirt, retired sailor, volunteer worker (not afraid of work). Originally born in Norfolk, grew up in Florida (spent many a Summer at my granny's working in tobacco - that's why I don't smoke these days), been all over the place in the Navy, more recently spent two years in England (formerly a Virginian in Shropshire), moved back to Virginia last Summer.

My interest in photography grew out of traveling, seeing interesting places and things, and having nothing to take pictures of such things for posterity (and memories). I started with a Minolta 16 (used the same film as a 16 mm movie camera), which was probably designed for spies because of its small size. It had a variable aperture, and at that time I was a bit ignorant of how to use the F-stops for bringing things into focus.

My first SLR was a Yashica model, which I purchased about 1977-78, then took to Sicily with me. One of my roomies was a photographer, and I learned lots about shooting with black and white film and processing from him. While there I took loads of pics, (Mt Etna and some of the antiquities located in Sicily). While in Sicily I also had an opportunity to visit a friend in Lyon, France (she was an exchange student in Florida who I met through my brother's girlfriend). I was allowed to stay with them for the week I was there, wonderful and creative family (he worked in decorative wrought iron), and walked around Lyon enjoying the culture (Lyon used to be a hub for textiles, I visited a textile factory which was still using equipment and methods well over 100 years old). I also happened across a harvest festival in full swing, and took lots of photos of the folk dancers making merry in the streets (must have had something to do with plums because there were lots of gents dressed in local folk attire carrying baskets of plums and tossing them to the crowds). I was allowed to shoot while the dancers milled around me, I think I heard one say I was an American from National Geographic, flattering, but not true. I remember the young man who seemed to be the lead dancer, I believe his name was Hugo.

Well, that really set me off to try new and different things. On my way back from Lyon I ended up in the same compartment with a couple of young ladies from Fribourg Switzerland (their mother tongue was French), who were on their way to Florence. I had a spare day (planned just in case) and they talked me into taking a tour of the city (they did this every year). We were about the same age, and had a great time. We arrived in Florence at about 5 am, and we didn't stop until 11 pm when they decided to get a room in a pensione so we could freshen up and I could catch the last train to Sicily at 1 am. Their names were Michele Mauron and Bridgette Müller if I remember correctly. I took loads of photos, and was invited to visit them in Switzerland the following year (I made another trip to Sicily in 1979 which helped).

From that experience I flew out to photograph a friend's wedding in El Paso Texas, spent a week in Pleasant Hill California staying with a childhood friend and photographing San Francisco (I happened to be downtown near city hall when the mayor and Harvey Milk were gunned down, I must have left the area just before it happened).

After my second trip to Sicily (where I took my early photos of Mt Etna during an eruption), I purchased an Olympus OM2n, which gave me a lot more flexibility in shooting since the Yashica was strictly a manual SLR (learned lots though about aperture, speed, the affect variations of each had on the exposure). I visited my friends in Switzerland (they treated me like a king), took lots more photos (it was quite an experience to see Roman amphitheater ruins there after seeing the same in Sicily), then headed to Tennessee for advanced electronics schooling.

My photography took a back seat when I met my future wife, had kids and a house to work on. Although I occasionally took photos of family events, the Olympus primarily collected dust, until the digital age hit me in 1998, when I bought my first digital camera. It was only 1.3 MP, which didn't provide much in the way of quality photography, but got me interested in my passion once again. A few of years later I upgraded to a Sony Cybershot (3.2 MP), then another Sony (5.1 MP) soon followed. Three years ago I purchased my Pentax Optio, which has served me well on my travels, and still have, but use infrequently these days. My latest acquisition is a Pentax K100D (an SLR) which feels a lot like my old 35mm with a motor drive, but gives me the satisfaction of being able to take lots of pictures without having to wait on the developing process, much more efficient when experimenting.

So I'm still a work in progress, and look forward to broadening my photographic horizons, and hopefully meeting some of my flickr friends during my travels.
