Fall 2012

Last year after my father died my mom bought a Canon Powershot SX30. She later decided she did not want that one and gave it to me. Now I am on a mission to learn digital photography and see what I can do.

Years ago I worked for a newspaper in southwest Minnesota so I do have some experience using a film camera. For some reason though I could never figure out the digital cameras. Too many automated settings and such. Now I am getting more comfortable with that.

I am finding the SX30 to be a good but not great camera. It works very well for macro shots and I am getting better at landscape shots. The camera is simply too slow to get great wildlife shots if you want to catch birds in flight and such.

I just ordered a Nikon D7000 with an 18-300mm 3.5f-5.6f zoom and a fixed 35mm 1.8 lens. I am looking forward to learning the new camera this spring and hopefully getting some good shots.
