I am a professional cinematographer who does photography due to the cost difference.
Don't get me wrong, I love photography almost as much, it's just not where my training lies. I have been shooting photos since high school and I have been doing videos since 6th grade.
I learned that I have the eye of a photographer when I started at MassArt and was encouraged by my intro to film teacher, Robert Patton-Spruill (a successful film director) to pursue a career in it. I have been working up to what I think will be a successful career in cinematography and am hoping to move to either Austin or LA within a year to try and break into the real paying gigs. Out here in Boston, I have shot far too many rap videos and worked for little to no money, doing something that I feel I am exceptional at. Creating images (both moving and static) is my livelihood, and I have gained this confidence through years of learning from my mistakes and experimenting.
Someday, I dream of working with a camera or system that can view the world as my eyes have always seen it. Then, I will be content to move on and share my experiences with the world through my true eyes.
