A Newcastle upon Tyne living man, born in Manchester in the 1940s, lived in London. Have worked in transport. Ding-ding! Hold very tight, please. Now retired.

I joined Flickr in the days before the Yahoo! takeover when things were much simpler. Several gut wrenching site overhauls later, I am still here, for lack of a viable alternative.

June, 2019 and Smug Mug took over, transferred everything to Amazon servers, not without a couple of hitches. However, I'm still here, struggling on in the hope that the new people don't get any bright ideas about jazzing things up again. Flickr users do not require whiz-bang, adolescent cleverness; we value a tried-and-trusted interface for displaying and sharing our photos.

You can see some of my photo gear here. I have been doing photography since I was about seven. My father was a keen photographer, so I just followed his lead. How I enjoyed those many evenings spent swishing chemicals and enlarging in a darkroom built in the cellar of our large Edwardian house in Manchester.

I have a modest collection of vintage cameras, all in use. I employ film copiously, although I am not averse to using my now over-ten-year-old digital SLR (Oh, no! The Olympus digi SLR was stolen. A new Canon has replaced it, hurrah!) and whatever mobile phone camera I have to hand. I use a digital dictation machine and GPS equipment to record details of the shots I take on film, which I embed in EXIF and IPTC data on scanned items. I catalogue all my negatives with this information in hard copy.

I expended a fair amount of time, trouble and money obtaining equipment, travelling to locations, taking these photos, and processing the images which I share with you on Flickr. If you look closely, you will not only see copyright notices on the photos but also my Flickr declaration: All Rights Reserved. So, if you then go ahead and steal my photos for either commercial purposes or plagiarism (you will additionally prove your illegal intent by removing or obscuring my copyright notice), you will be deemed to have entered into my offer of once only copyright contract and will be subject to my standard charge of £2,000 per image.

Should you wish to discuss using any of my images for a substantially smaller fee, my ears are open to your request.
