I was born in Kankakee, Illinois in 1946; shortly after that we moved back to our family home in Los Angeles, California. I’ve trained at Art Center School of Design and Otis Art Institute, both in Los Angeles. I received my BFA 1975, from California State University at Long Beach.

My way of working is to share, through my art, the stories of my adventures, places and people that have touched my life. I have my own way of looking and interpreting my life.

The roof top, a bridge, or a restaurant table is my studio. Friends say I am an observer, my wife says, “Dennis you stair to much.” I am a kind of story teller, travel guide with my art. I choose to work on location. I draw on the spot, but sometimes refine my work back in the hotel room, or on a family kitchen table, or while aboard a flight home.

My work is ment to be both serious and humorous. With my many years visiting Japan, the humor runs on two sides, the American and the Japanese, but never with a wish to offend or hurt anyone. While drawing, I often laugh out loud with what I am thinking or drawing. It is good to laugh, even if I am laughing about myself.

My wanderlust for Japan began over thirty years ago, while at CSULB, I met and married Mieko Nishimura, a beautiful Japanese maiden from Nagasaki, Japan. She has been my introduction to the real Japan. In those years our journeys and adventures have taken us through out Japan.

I have had one man shows and two man shows in California, Tokyo, Nagasaki and New York City. My works are in private collections in Santa Barbra, Long Beach, Monterey, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nagasaki, Japan. I have both illustrated and free lanced art services for the Department of Defense, Addison-Wesley Publishing; Menlo Park, City of Los Angeles, Down Beat Magazine, Billboard, and the Democratic Party of California.
