I am a historian, and have always loved the photograph's place in good narrative. I once appreciated what I considered the essential 'truthfullness' of photography. Not understanding the technology, I believed that a photo shows an honest capture of a moment as it existed in time.
I'm less concerned these days with pinpointing the truly 'honest' capture of a moment, either in photography or real-time. But I do love the visual, and I love this form more than paint or sculpture or anything else.
I was inspired to flickr through a wonderful and random connection originally encountered on an airport shuttle bus. Right now, I'm just chronicling life as it comes with my little point and shoot. It's a good exercise in just discovering what images catch my eye, how to frame a shot, etc. There was once talk of my older brother gifting me a sweet SLR, but that may have been more talk than action. We'll see. In the meantime, I learn A LOT just by looking, and from the generous comments and views of strangers and friends. In the spirit of the holidays, I offer my sincere gratitude and appreciation to you all.
With love and light....
