Drag to set position!
I’m Gus Bennett—a photographer, storyteller, educator and cultural documentarian based in New Orleans. For over four decades, I’ve used my camera to capture the truth, beauty, and complexity of the world around me, especially the vibrant spirit of Black life and culture in my hometown. My work is rooted in a deep respect for everyday people and the stories they carry—stories of strength, struggle, joy, and legacy.
Whether I’m photographing a second line parade, a quiet street moment, or a studio portrait against a simple white backdrop, my goal is always the same: to create images that speak honestly, that honor the subject, and that invite reflection. I believe photography is more than an art—it’s a form of witness, a tool for remembering, and a way of seeing what others might overlook.
On this Flickr account, you’ll find a mix of portraiture, street photography, documentary work, entertainment work and behind-the-scenes glimpses of my ongoing projects. From New Orleans neighborhoods to international exhibitions, I strive to keep my lens focused on what matters most: the human story.
Thank you for following my journey. I hope my images inspire, challenge, and move you.
