Born April, 25th 1954 in Lilleröd, Denmark in the apartment to the left on the photo and Saul Panzer is not my real name (any lover of detective fiction will probably know).

When I was a boy my father bought a Konica Auto S2 and I was immediately sold on photography. I took a lot of photos - mostly slides - but around the age of 16 my focus went elsewhere and I forgot all about it (along with a lot of other stuff)

Several years later common sense finally caught up with me and in 2004 I entered the world of digital photography, when I bought a Canon G5 - which I still love - and in 2007 I purchased a second hand Canon 350D and thanks this and all the lovely people, I have met on this site, I am now a happy born-again-flickraholic. In Autumn 2008 I finally got the love of my life a second hand Canon 5D

Without insulting me you could describe me as diary-photographer and a devoted nostalgic - I'm not the one to veto Life as I have been fortunate enough to have had several second chances with it..

I am a a hopelessly optimistic collector of children's smiles and I always try to capture happy moments and disappointments not fulfilled or - if I'm in that mood - nothing nobody else can see.

As I am more into making pictures than photos, I'm not that hardcore when it comes to dogme and standards for photography (when words like "DOF" and "bokeh" turned up in comments I had to look them up) - but I do have one simple guideline for my own photographing: No flash. If a situation requires flash it will not be captured (at least not by me ;0]).

If a photo needs cropping I would previously have send it to that spooky place from where no photo has ever returned. Luckily the advise and results of good friends on Flick made me finally try it and now almost every photo I do is unscrupulously cropped and if necessary post processed by every dirty trick in the book and then some that aren't, so so much for my principles. (even grumpy old men can change their mind)

I'm a humble person (i.e. I'm only half as pleased with myself as any other person would be, were they in my shoes), so I wont say you'll find great art or masterpieces in my collection.

Nor will you find beautiful photos of flowers or perfectly exposed apes (don't believe me - there are some, but perhaps not perfectly exposed) - the only proper photo of a sunset is taken by my daughter - but you may find a butterfly or two, lots of kids, castles, dancers, benches, train stations, bicycles, disturbing doorways™, ancestors, gates and even some photos of a cat.

And you'll find photos, where I have tried to focus on people, places and situations, where the subjects "do the talking" - not so much the photographer.

If you don't quite get what I mean with that, you are more than welcome to take a look at one of my older slideshows:

People In B&W - The Faroe Islands 2005-2006

or - if you are more into experiments with colour - this:

New People (More or Less) in Colour

This will hopefully give you a hint.

Thanks a lot for viewing - I'm truly grateful for any comment - and welcome to my world:

P.S.

Thanks to all my friends at Flickr for their never ending support and for all their wonderful photos.

And a special thanks to Connie - one of my first Flickr contacts.

In the beginning at Flickr I didn't know which path to follow, until Connie guided me in the right direction and told me, where she thought my force was. I hurried in that direction and haven't really looked back since - I'll always be grateful to her for that.

Also a very special thanks to Dear Julie (also) for her polka dress and for claiming I have a disturbing liking for doorways and (also) for her sweet testimonial and to

Carlos for his...And to Tom for sharing the (4) Elements with me…and for unscrupulously cropping my captures

...and of course special thanks to Cheryl The A&B team and

Akbar & The Nuns (quoted below and probably the next Chairman of FICWPA™)

for all their help in the "early days" and now

Saul Panzer is a life photographer. There is an authenticity in his shots that is very seldom and highly enjoyable. His photos will make you laugh or will move you. The situations he shoots could be anywhere or anytime. Anyone is a part of his stream. And this is what is so great about it. And not only are his photos part of our lives, they also show the sheer quality of a brilliant photographer.
