It all began when I was changing my guitar strings one day...
I held a string in my hand and realized that it is a wire. Not only is it a wire but each one is made up of different metals and therefore they cannot be recycled. Each time a musician changes their guitar strings (and for some of us, that can be quite often), that metal ends up in the landfill.
Having been a jewelry designer for years I’ve used many types of wire in my stained glass and beaded creations. When the realization hit, I couldn’t believe what a rich treasure trove of possibility opened up with the addition of used guitar strings. To me, this is recycling at its finest.
It all came together...
In November of 2010 I Co-Founded Musicians on a Mission, a Non-Profit which supports the music community as well as local charities. MoaM has been such an amazing journey already and it feels like we’ve only just begun. Being a part of this incredible community of musicians and supporters has been, and continues to be a source of inspiration. Recycling guitar strings into wearable art allows me to combine my passion for music with my passion for jewelry design. Strings that I know have been played with such heart before being thoughtfully saved and donated inspires me deeply. It is my hope that my designs match the richness of the music that has been played on these strings.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale of 'High Strung' guitar string jewelry will be donated back to the organization so that we can continue to fund our activities.
