I'm a recreational birder (since 1987) and photographer (since 2002) focusing, so to speak, on birds, especially seabirds, and marine mammals, primarily in North and Central America. I live in Santa Cruz, California, and previously lived in Oakland, California, and Boston, Massachusetts (and many other places before I became a birder).

I'm particularly interested in using photos to promote conservation of threatened and endangered species, and have contributed many photos for the publications or websites of BirdLife International, American Bird Conservancy, Audubon, Center for Biological Diversity, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and many other organizations.

I also enjoy contributing to on-line photo databases and forums, such as the Cornell Lab of Ornitholgy’s Macaulay Library, BirdForum’s Opus, the Field Guide: Birds of the World group on Flickr, VIREO, iNaturalist and CalPhotos.

All photos are of wild, unrestrained animals unless noted otherwise.
