那天我给几个女儿看 Cross Country 这组照片，我家三儿当时 8 岁，问我为什么取名叫“无忌”。这两个字我用英文解释为“No Fear”。取这两个字为名是在几年前了，当时父母来看我，看到我在自己网页上写的几句话而警告我。当时具体写的什么现在已经忘了，只记得是抗议当时中国政府秘密拘留网上称“不锈钢老鼠”的北京学生刘荻。我能理解父母的心情。但是这种心情让我震撼，因为即使半个地球之外的另一个世界里，中国共产党的恐怖阴影仍然在他们的头脑里挥之不去。我祈望我的孩子们长大了不要有这种恐惧。这只能是一种祈望，但也是一个实实在在的希望。
另外，无忌跟无稽相去不远。Google翻译把“无稽”翻译成 Fantastic，我到觉得 full of crap 或许更合适一些 :-)
My little one also asked me about the little red devil I use as my buddy icon. I think it fits my name here. I like the red devil because it is the symbol of the BSD UNIX. Today, FreeBSD still uses it as its icon. I have mostly used Linux, which probably still contains a lot of code from BSD. I very much admire those pioneers of open source.
